Are you one of the millions of people that suffer from eczema?

eczema

Common Things That Trigger Eczema

eczema
Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, can be a long-term condition affecting the skin.

Eczema occurs because of a hypersensitivity reaction (similar to an allergy), in which the skin reacts to certain triggers.

The following can be common eczema triggers –

  • Irritants: soaps, detergents, shampoos, disinfectants, and the biggest desensitiser to skin, Perfumes.
  • Juices from fresh fruits, or vegetables can also act as triggers.
  • Allergens: dust mites, pets, pollens, mould, dandruff.
  • Hot and cold temperatures: hot weather, high and low humidity, perspiration from exercise.
  • Foods: dairy products, eggs, nuts and seeds, soy products, wheat.
  • Stress: it is not a cause of eczema but can make symptoms worse.
  • Hormones: women can experience worsening of eczema symptoms at times when their hormone levels are changing, for example during pregnancy and at certain points in their menstrual cycle.

All of the above can trigger excessive itching and heat which in turn causes you to scratch, irritating the skin even more and also by removing more layers. You can cause an infection in the skin by doing so!
Probably the worst complaint by eczema sufferers is the itching!!!!

Rebuilding Your Natural Skin Defences

Firstly the surface skin needs to be protected from further irritants and the elements in order to be relieved & soothed.  This first step is the most important in order to bring about any relief and results to a stressed and irritated eczema/dermatitis skin.
You need to get back to basics where ‘less is more’.  Slowly building your protective barrier of the skin so it doesn’t have such sensitive reactions. What you put on the surface of the skin is important. In a lot of skins which are at a reactive stage, even wearing clothes that may have been washed in a perfumed detergent can trigger the skin to flare up.  Possibly causing itchy, red, sore and inflamed eczema reactions.  When the skin gets this irritated the ‘less is more’ scenario definitely comes into play.  All sorts of reactions can be triggered in individuals on the surface of the skin that might not even necessarily be the area of skin that usually gets the eczema in the first place.

Eczema Relief

Eczema is generally an internal factor that shows itself externally.
Internal nutrients and supplements are a great place to start.  Depending on your dietary requirements or whether you can take fish supplements or vege capsules there is an option for you. Remember you are what you eat!!
Essential Fatty Acids are the first stepping stone needed in skin health.  Repairing, desensitising and balancing reactive, inflamed, sensitised skins. Omega 3 & 6’s, found in foods naturally like your fatty fish (salmon, sardines) and in avocado oil for example. You can also take flax seed capsules which also give you omega’s 3,6 and 9 with no fishy aftertaste if this is an issue for you.
This is also a good idea even as a precaution over the harsh winter season when the elements of extreme hot and cold conditions are more taxing on your skin’s barrier than any other time of the year.  What the essential fatty acids do is feed the skin internally which gives more protective barrier to your skin. It also helps protect the cells and enable them to hold onto water.  The red, inflamed reaction is your body’s way of trying to heal and calm the skin by rushing in blood to heal, flush out the toxins (e.g. the artificial chemicals) or what has caused this process in the first place.

THERE IS A SKIN CARE RANGE TO HELP!!!

Many typical beauty products can bombard your skin with ingredients for certain skin conditions,  from perfumes to higher concentrate of vitamins A and C.  Dermaviduals will simply mimic’s your own skin structure & bring about homeostasis (balance) so that your skin is calmed, soothed, hydrated and therefore relieved from common eczema conditions, by reducing  redness, irritation & inflammation.
Once your skins condition improves, with Dermaviduals, we can introduce new products & ingredients.  Taking it to the next level, targeting other issues such as anti-ageing, pigmentation, or rosacea.   Vibe can customise your own facial moisturiser and/or serum where you will notice & feel results almost immediately. Below are some great Dermavidual products that we recommend to soothe, calm and protect your skin every day.
DMS Base Cream High Classic & High classic Plus: Two of the base moisturisers that can be used alone or have other specific ingredients added for your skin conditions.  These moisturisers contain ingredients that mimic our skin structure called DMS (Dermal Membrane Structure), hydrating and bringing about balance to your skin.
Oleogel: A hydrating, protecting balm type product to protect and soothe those small areas exposed to harsh elements. Or for skin that is so compromised it cannot cope with anything else on it.  For those occasions where the wind and cold come calling e.g. lips & cheeks. Comes in a small handy pot which easily fits into a pocket or handbag
Linseed Nanoparticles: Contains lipids and essential fatty acids to protect and soothe inflamed irritated & reddened skin.  Can be used on its own (under a moisturiser) or we can add it to your personalised moisturiser or serum.

Kiwi Seed Oil Nanoparticles: Rapidly absorbed by the skin and contains fatty acids to protect and soothe the skin, calming inflammatory conditions.  Can be used alone or added to your personal moisturiser or serum.

Liposome Concentrate Plus: Another product containing essential fatty acids to nourish and protect.  Great to be used in combination with other products to balance the lipid barrier of the skin.
These are just a few of the amazing products Vibe can incorporate into a mix for your skin condition so whether your skin is highly reactive, or reacts at certain times we can help you!
